I can read basic music. I can play tunes on a keyboard (not a piano) with one hand.
Starting from this point, how many hours of lessons would I need to get to a level where I can play children’s songs and perhaps hymns that children sing at schools? I mean playing with both hands, comfortable with chords etc…
As an added complication, also assume I have no access to a piano between lessons…
My daughter practised for an hour a day, and had a one hour lesson every week.
She was grade 8 by the age of 14 – it sounds advanced, but she needed to be that when she became a teacher and they asked her to do the assemblies etc. You need to be pretty good at reading music to play for other people.
Just practise as much as you can and see how far it takes you, but don’t have too high expectations.
Btw, if you don’t have access to a piano it isn’t the end of the world – a keyboard is ok. My daughter teaches a girl who only has a keyboard between lessons, and my son only has a keyboard which he keeps under the bed in his flat as he has no room for a piano!
I am starting to learn salsa on the piano, and im looking for a electric piano i can have in my house. I want good quality for a reasonable price. Im not looking for on stage pianos that cost $1,000 or up. I only like Yamaha pianos.
If you only like Yamaha pianos, I guess you should be looking at Yamaha pianos.
Digital pianos worth having are all going to be upward of $1000.
