Dreaming of playing Piano? You Can Do It!  Listen, don't fall victim to piano teaching course scams. There are a large number of "pseudo" play piano courses out there that claim you “can learn to play piano” almost instantly. That's totally crazy. Being a long time piano instructor, it appears to me that most of these piano instruction courses are a total joke and not worth the time it takes to read them.  During the time I spent researching over 15 of the most advertised play piano courses I did find some really good ones that I want to tell you about.  If you really want to play piano like a pro you should check them out right now.

Learn & Master Piano - by Will Barrow

Learn & Master Piano with Will Barrow is a creation of Legacy Learning Systems. This is far and away my number one favorite play piano course, ever, and if I had a six star rating I would give it to them. I've seen their guitar course before and it was terrific. So my expectation levels for their learn to play the piano teaching course were very high. I can truly say they not only met my expectations with this piano course but they exceeded them.

This is certainly not the least expensive piano course on the Internet but I can say without reservation it is absolutely one of the best. You get 14 DVDs that outline each lesson clearly, a printed manual that contains songs and exercises, five play along CDS that let you play piano along with a band while you practice and also online support for you if you need it.

Like I said, the course is a little pricey but if you are really serious about learning to play the piano, it is the best one available. Compared to the cost of a top piano teacher, this course is a bargain, and the quality of the materials is superb.  Everything is top of the line from the production to the web site to the Grammy award winning teacher.

You start off by immediately playing songs, so that you are not overwhelmed with music theory and note reading.  These basics are added a little at time, as you progress, along with more advanced piano playing techniques.  The songs you start with are not the usual Jingle Bells and Yankee Doodle Dandy but are popular songs that you'll recognize.

There was considerable thought put into all the piano lessons and they are very easy to understand and to follow.  The instructor has a great ability to communicate exactly what he's trying to teach so that you can absorb everything very quickly.  The play along CDs are wonderful for helping you to learn to play the piano and it is really fun to have something to play piano along to. This method of teaching is extremely useful and I have not seen it in any other piano course I have examined.

One of the most impressive features of the entire program, is that with all the Legacy Learning programs you receive ongoing support after you have purchased the course. This free support system allows you access a private "Members Only" website where you can chat with other students, get questions answered and discuss the progress you are making. Will Barrow, the Grammy winning author of the course, monitors the forums and answers many of the questions himself.  All this is a real help if you find yourself stuck along the way.

Lets Sum Up: If what you want is more than just an ordinary introduction to the piano, then Learn & Master Piano is the piano course for you. In my opinion, it is the very best piano course I have ever seen and there is no other to compare it to.  It is head and shoulders above its next competitor. There is no question it costs more than many other computer based piano teaching courses but if you seriously want to learn to play piano it is more than worth the investment.

Here Is A Little Hint For You: I have noticed that Legacy Learning periodically puts this course on sale.  It is usually only for a couple of days at a time but if you are like me and price is important, I would check their site from time to time to see if there is a sale going on. That way you won’t miss the opportunity to save some dough.

Piano Wizard by Chris Salter gets our highest recommendation as our top piano course for children. It instantly captivates kids with its "video game" teaching method and can rapidly get children fully engaged in learning to play the piano. The Piano Wizard program will keep the kids fully interested in playing piano as they progress through ever more advanced levels of learning.

Lets Sum Up: If you want your kids to learn to play the piano in using a fun technique then Piano Wizard can't be beat. Courses are offered at various price points to allow you to get involved on a limited budget or purchase the full blown course. Either way you can't miss with this program.

Rocket Piano by Ruth Searle

Rocket Piano by Ruth Searle is my second best rated piano course. Although it is not the superior quality of Learn & Master Piano it is still a great piano course. Without a doubt it is the best of the low-cost software based piano instructional courses.  There are no CDs or DVDs with this course so you will have to have your computer in front of you when using it. The course itself is very extensive and the lessons are well thought out and simple to follow.

Let’s Sum Up: In addition to the large amount of piano training material included in the course you get six great bonuses along with it.  If money is an issue don’t let it keep you from learning the piano. This is a first rate course and before Learn & Master Piano was published, Rocket Piano was far and away my number one choice for a how to play the piano course.

PianoForAll by Robin Hall

PianoForAll by Robin Hall is my third choice. This course offers lessons in a variety of styles. You learn Pop, Blues, Jazz, Ragtime, Ballads and even incredible Classical pieces.  This system is similar to Rocket Piano in that your materials are accessed via computer. The course is really quite extensive including 10 e-Books, 500 audio lessons and 200 video lessons. One of the really good points of PianoForAll is that they offer a wide range of purchase options at various price points. This can be an excellent option if you want an extensive piano course but are a little cash sensitive.  You can spread out your purchases over time and still get the entire piano training course.

Let’s Sum Up: Learn & Master Piano and Rocket Piano are better courses, in my opinion, than PianoForAll but the course does offer a massive amount of training and is well presented. It is extremely good if you want to learn an improvisational method of playing the piano or if you are more interested in blues piano and jazz piano.

Piano Is Fun by Dr. Anthony Fernando

Piano Is Fun by Dr. Anthony Fernando is a really inexpensive piano training course that is a fabulous choice for kids. The soft-ware course is extremely easy to use and keeps kids interested in learning the piano.  Although the website says this is good for children and adults, in my estimation it is far to simplistic for an adult to be comfortable in using it but kids will love it.

Lets Sum Up: If you have children that you want to learn the piano, Piano Is Fun is the choice for you. With kids, keeping their interest is the most important thing and this course will do it at a very reasonable cost.
